Park HS Team Tierney Raises $4,500 for Leukemia

Over 100 students, teachers, friends and family walked Thursday in honor of Park student John Tierney who has leukemia.

When Danielle Frost first thought about organizing a walk to show her friend, John Tierney, how much he is loved and supported by the Washington Park family, she never thought it would grow into a wildly successful fundraiser.

In just three weeks, Frost raised $4,500 for Tierney's family, to help offset his medical costs, primarily through the walk registration fee. Walkers paid $15 to participate and received a t-shirt and a bracelet, each with "Team Tierney" on them. After the cost of the shirt and bracelet were paid - about $7 - the rest was set aside.

"This is a really great turnout," Frost said before the crowd of over 100 left the school for the 3-mile walk to Tierney's house. "It's so cool to have this feeling that I made a difference."

Once the crowd arrived at Tierney's house, he and Frost shared a fierce hug before he thanked everyone for their support.

"Thank you to Danielle, and thank you to all of you for supporting me," he said. "More importantly, thank you for helping cure out this horrendous (disease)."
