A Budget for Wisconsin's Future: Speaker's Briefing for June 21, 2013

I’m State Representative Robin Vos and this is the Speaker’s Briefing.

The budget is on its way to Governor Walker for his signature! The budget features a historic income tax cut, more money for public education and a statewide expansion of the school choice program. This was all done while holding property taxes in line!

This budget will be great for Wisconsin. Already, surveys show that we’re moving in the right direction and I fully expect that we’ll see more good news once this budget is enacted.

The debate on the Assembly floor was quick, and I am disappointed that my Democratic colleagues chose not to offer a contrasting vision for Wisconsin. For all their rhetoric, Democrats decided not to engage in a vigorous debate, which does not serve their constituents. While I firmly believe this budget is a great one for everyone in Wisconsin, I always welcome discussion.

Assembly Republicans did great work on this budget. I’m proud of the process. The public, every member, all of us were given a chance to have a say and share concerns about how the budget would impact our areas. The result is a solid budget for Wisconsin.
