Why do They Love Living in Mount Pleasant? The Candidates Tell Patch

Each candidate for village president has their own reasons for why they like living in Mount Pleasant.

Three candidates are in the running to be president for the Village of Mount Pleasant: incumbent Carolyn Milkie, former police chief James Majdoch and write-in Sharman Turek. In previous articles, the candidates answered questions about why they're running and the most important issue facing the village.Β

Milkie said that her strong relationships with neighboring communities will help the village form new partnerships to save taxpayers money on services. Majdoch said he sees too much business as usual and he wants to lead the board by exploring multiple options for solutions. Turek said she is the only fiscal conservative running, which is just what Mount Pleasant needs to keep taxes and user fees down in the face of Governor Scott Walker's proposed budget.

Spending, keeping taxes down, and continuing to deliver services at a high level for residents are at the top of each candidate's list for the issues facing the village. Milkie says it's vital to bring new businesses and jobs to Mount Pleasant to increase the village's tax base while Majdoch says it's time to take a hard look at wants and needs, and Turek wants to examine all options for how to get through revenue cuts and taxing limits.

Carolyn Milkie: Mount Pleasant has a quality of life not equaled anywhere else. We have a unique mix of rural, urban, suburban and commercial areas. And it's safe here, a quiet community.

James Majdoch: The dedication of village employees goes above and beyond the requirements of their jobs in supporting the village. Also, we have a great diversity here not just in our population, but also in the opportunities for growth in recreation, retail, commercial and residential.

Sharman Turek: Mount Pleasant is growing, but we still have a rural atmosphere were people pull together. Life here is at a little slower pace. We have great parks with a great quality of life.
