Vos Talks Voter ID, Tougher Recall Standards at AFP Lunch

Voter ID, tougher recall standards, and increasing the state highway speed limit to 70 were just three pieces of upcoming legislation voters can expect lawmakers to address this fall.

During a lunch Friday in Mount Pleasant, Rep. Robin Vos told constituents they can expect lawmakers to tackle tough issues this fall.

The lunch, hosted and paid for by Americans for Prosperity at the Charcoal Grill, 8300 Washington Avenue, was organized to "provide Racine taxpayers with more information on how our elected leaders are representing you," according to the AFP website.

In addition to voter ID, Vos, R-Burlington, said the state Legislature is expected to also take up bills that make it more difficult to recall elected officials and raise the speed limit on expressways to 70 mph, according to The Journal Times.

Voter ID

Vos is committed to having voter ID requirements in place for the November 2014 elections.

Recalls

The newspaper reports that Vos expects a constitutional amendment to move forward this fall that would allow the recall of elected officials only in the face of criminal activity or for malfeasance in office.

Speed limit

Wisconsin is the only state in the Midwest, Vos said, without a 70 mph speed limit on expressways. He said raising the state's highway speed limit to 70 from 65 will bring Wisconsin in line with its neighbors.
