Sturtevant Approves Two-Year Police Contract, May Have Positions to Fill

A new, two-year contract was approved by trustees Tuesday.

Sturtevant police officers have a new, two-year contract that includes salary increases and larger contributions from officers toward their healthcare.

Trustees on Tuesday unanimously approved an agreement with the Sturtevant Police Association that runs from Jan. 1, 2013 to Dec. 31, 2014.

Included in the contract are 1 percent wage increases for officers on Jan. 1, 2013, Jan. 1, 2014 and July 1, 2014.

But officers will also pay more into their health insurance. Currently, they contribute 7.5 percent. That amount goes up to 10 percent on Jan. 1, 2013 and to 12 percent on Jan 1, 2014.

In other news, the department could welcome new officers later this year.

Sturtevant Police Chief Sean Marschke Tuesday told trustees that he expects two officers to resign in the next few weeks, one full-time and one part-time. Those positions will need to be filled as soon as possible, and members of the Administration, Personnel, Policy and Legal committee will discuss the village's options at the next continual committee meeting on July 24.
