New Sturtevant Trustee Heads Public Safety Committee

Jayme Hoffman was sworn in on April 17 and was assigned to three committees, including being tapped as the new chair of the Public Safety and Heath Committee.

Village President Steve Jansen usually shakes up committee appointments after an election, and this year is no different.

The April 3 election changed the make-up of the board by one. Gary Johnson and Linda Busha were re-elected, and Jayme Hoffman got his first term as a trustee.

Before Hoffman was sworn in on April 17, Jansen talked to him about where his interests lie. Given his experience as an EMT and as a volunteer fire fighter for Sturtevant, chairing the Public Safety and Health Committee seemed like a natural fit.

"Steve and I sat down and had a talk about what committees I would be part of," Hoffman said. "I have been an EMT since 1991 and I am the manager of an ambulance company, so Public Safety made the most sense."

Jansen said he likes to move trustees around so everyone gets a little experience in most areas.

"It's good for everyone to find out how things work with the different committees," he added. "That way, trustees can fill in for each other when needed or move more easily into another role after the next election."

Here's how the committee assignments shake out:

  • Finance & Budgetary: John Johnson (Chair), Chris Wright, Chris Larsen
  • Public Safety & Health: Jayme Hoffman (Chair), Chris Wright, John Johnson
  • Storm & Wastewater: Chris Wright (Chair), Gary Johnson, Chris Larsen
  • Public Works & Capital Improvements: Gary Johnson (Chair), Jayme Hoffman, Linda Busha
  • Administration, Personnel, Policy & Legal: Chris Larsen (Chair), John Johnson, Chris Wright
  • Economic Development & Redevelopment: Gary Larsen (Chair) Chris Larsen, Linda Busha
  • Community Events, Beautification & Cultural: Linda Busha (Chair), Chris Larsen, Jayme Hoffman

Trustee Gary Johnson is also on the Planning Commission while Trustees Chris Larsen and Linda Busha also serve on the Community Development Authority.

Hoffman said he's enjoying the work so far but admits it's time consuming.

"It's definitely interesting and I have a lot to learn," he said. "It takes a lot of time, but I'm enjoying it."
