Mount Pleasant Voters Choose Gleason for Village President

Mount Pleasant voters Tuesday overwhelmingly chose County Supervisor Mark Gleason over Trustee Karen Albeck.

Gleason said he's honored to have the public's trust to get the job done in the village.

"I'm really very pleased that the public put this amount of trust in me to get the job done," he said. "We will solve the problems in Mount Pleasant because we have a good board. The village won't be a tabloid story, it will be a success story."

After she got the news of Gleason's win, Albeck said she wished Gleason luck.

"It was a vigorous campaign and the voters have spoken," she said. "I wish Mark well."

As of 10:05 p.m., results were in from all village polling locations: Messiah Lutheran, Franksville Joint Park, Racine Assembly of God, Concordia Lutheran, Village Hall and Fellowship Baptist.

Newcomer David DeGroot came out well ahead of incumbents John Hewitt and Sonny Havn in a field of six for three open seats.

DeGroot, too, said he is honored that residents think he will serve the village well.

"I reached out to small business owners and to residents and we all want to see some change," he said. "I'm honored by the faith and trust placed in me. The good news is that Mount Pleasant's problems are not insurmountable and we will get it turned around." 

Mount Pleasant has six polling locations for 23 wards and had a 28 percent turnout; 5,046 voters out of 17,811 registered voters.
