244 New Jobs Heading to Sturtevant

Some 244 jobs are coming to Sturtevant as part of a new development with an estimated value of $32 million.

Village trustees and members of the Community Development Authority Tuesday night approved changing Sturtevant's comprehensive land use plan to put one of the last pieces in place for the development to break ground.

Designed to occupy the southwest corner of Highways H and 11, the new tenant—dubbed Project Green for its eco-friendly building plans—is an industrial development. Because the comprehensive plan indicates that parcel is identified for commercial use but zoned for industrial/business park, the officials needed to amend the plan to match the zoning.

The executive summary states, "In the opinion of staff and consultants, the proposed $32,000,000 development will enhance economic develoment in the area by providing an estimated 244 jobs, by raising the quality standard of development in the corridor, and by attracting additional complementary development."

Village Attorney Tim Pruitt and Jenny Trick from Racine County Economic Development Corporation have been working with trustees and members of the CDA for weeks on Project Green, but aside from the information from the summary, details remain thin until the expected development agreement is finalized.

"Hopefully, things will continue to come together," Pruitt said.
