Two Mount Pleasant Men Break Into Home; Found it on Facebook

The house belongs to a suspect's stepmother, and she was out of town when the break-in occurred.

A Mount Pleasant man was so angry with his stepmother for denying him some of his deceased father's life insurance policy that he and a friend broke into the woman's home while she was out of town.

According to a criminal complaint, they found out the victim was going to be out of town from a Facebook update. The crime took place sometime between the afternoons of Aug. 27 and Aug. 28.

Redipher Jones, 19, and Jarred Lopotko, 20, each face one count of burglary for allegedly breaking into the home of Jones' stepmother by throwing a rock through a window in the back door. Among other things, Jones and Lopotko stole a gun safe with a .45 semi-automatic handgun and $250 in cash. The pair also reportedly took a gaming system and various accessories, cords and cables from the victim's son's room.

The men were caught after Jones' stepmother suspected him and police investigators eventually tracked down the stolen items at Lopotko's house, according to the criminal complaint. Both admitted to stealing the items, the complaint said.Β

The police report says that Jones' father kicked him out for not having a job and refusing to help around the house. After Jones' father died earlier this year, he has been pressuring his stepmother to give him some of his father's life insurance money and to allow him back in the family home.
