Teenage Girl in Jail After Rendezvous Goes Wrong

The sex offender she met online called the cops after the girl left his place—taking his truck and puppy with her, he told officers.

A Sturtevant teenager had the cops looking for her after a sex offender called to report she left his place with more than a memory.

The 35-year-old sex offender told officers he met 16-year-old Ashley Haigh online, and that he invited her to his place after she told him she was 19. But, at the end of her visit, she took $600 cash, his truck and his pitbull puppy, he told police.

Haigh was charged Monday in Racine County Circuit Court with a single count each of felony theft from a person or corpse; operating a motor vehicle without the owner's consent; theft of moveable property (special facts); and a single count of misdemeanor theft. If convicted of all charges, she faces up to 22 years, nine months imprisonment and up to $55,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint, on Dec. 2, Racine Police were called to the home of a man who said he was missing about $600 in cash, the keys to his truck, the truck itself and his 8-week old pit bull puppy.

The man told officers he met Haigh in an Internet chat room a few days earlier, and that she told him she was 19. The complaint states the man admitted to officers that he is 35 years old and a registered sex offencer, after he got a 16-year-old girl pregnant a few years ago. Police confirmed the man was not currently under Department of Corrections supervision though he does have to keep his registry information up-to-date.

Officers say the man had the messages where Haigh confirmed her age as 19. There were additional messages from after the man discovered his belongings were missing where the defendant claimed she took his truck because she was afraid of him. Police reports indicate that when the man told Haigh he was going to call the police, she threatened him back, saying that if he called police she would tell officers they had sex.

The man gave police the girl's last name and address, and they went to her home the next day. Haigh was not there, but a relative retrieved the puppy from the garage and turned it over to police. The relative also told police the girl had come home with the truck and puppy, saying they belonged to a friend who had been arrested and she was keeping them until the friend got out of jail.

At some point, officers say Haigh texted them about where she left the truck and promised to come in for an interview. When she didn't, a warrant for her arrest was issued. Haigh was apprehended, and was in jail when she was charged with battery by prisoners. She was released and taken into custody again. Haigh remains in custody on these charges with a $5,000 cash bond.

Her next court appearance is Jan. 23 on the theft charges and on Feb. 8 for the battery charges.

There is soooo much wrong with this story. Not with the reporting, mind you, but the story line itself. Truly boggles the mind.

Why is she being tried as an adult?

Don't meet with anyone on the internet. There is no telling who you might be dealing with.
Terri January 21, 2013 at 06:07 PM
Because she should be. She knew what she was doing and it was wrong. Someone has to be tried as an adult to set the standard. All these kids nowadays need to be tried as adults. They do adult crimes, they should get the adult treatment.

A word to you my friend. If this is truly your sister. Cut her off now! She will only drag you down with her in time. She has chosen the way her life is going, but i can gurantee you, ahe will turn up on your doorstep boo hooing about how society did her wrong....and oh yeah...can I have a place to stay for the rest of my life. Trust me. I've been there. Cut off my brother completely.

Drew shut up. She was constantly running away because of her dad. So don't sit there and pretend there is nothing wrong with the family. Shocking both of her brothers are gay as well. Hmph

Well honestly people do know the full story, and the full story how every single child in that house was and had to live with other people, do you deny the fact you yourself had to go live with the aunts???? And Kristin taken out of this home?? And your poor brother Ryan as well had issues?? Seems to me you do love your parents but it is a misfortune you never truly had real love and compassion from normal parents. This is not your fault either Drew. However, people do know the truth and it is a matter of time before all is exposed. No one is assuming when we have witnessed the abuse or been on the phone when Ashley was being yelled at that she was worthless and a piece of shit by her father, or when Susan was hitting her, others heard it all. And thankfully now we all will be coming forward to help this girl that the state so obviously turned their backs on time in and time out. The Haighs can fool most of the people some of the times, but not everyone. Remember that, and remember there is public records of Drew needing to sleep in the park for fear he would be abused at home. There is plenty and I mean an outrageous amount of paper trail and public records. No wonder this kid got so messed up. I have personally heard each of her siblings refer to her as a little bitch that they could not deal with being around. Are you seriously going to deny that now? That is abuse.

. Or did someone forget to point out verbal abuse and mental abuse can deeply push someone over the edge. She lived with other family members just as dysfunctional as the parents, that is no true help. Seriously no one is believing any of this is solely this child's fault. Are you denying Mr Sex Offender now holds more rights then your own sister. Shame on you for being so lacksadaisy about this to protect your image. But then again Drew it truly has to be all about you. You need to step back and let people do what they can for her and stop your lying pleas. Covering up is not the true issue. My prayers are with this child and hopefully the state see's the whole picture and finally holds some action on these so called parents. I also wish people would do their job in finding out more facts. Oh nice sister to fed her as well to the wolves like your father, why am I not surprised?? Vandictive nasty vile behavior has always spewed from that household. PEOPLE DO KNOW AND THEY WILL BE AT COURT..
Really?? January 25, 2013 at 03:29 AM
AMEN, least the truth came out...Yes she flawed and yes she broke the law...but there is so much more. AND since when does a sex offender have more rights then a kid.??? And he fell asleep??? THEY HAD SEX no doubt....
Really?? January 25, 2013 at 03:35 AM
HMMMM its coming out now.....more family garbage??? Well maybe Susan and Jeffrey need parenting 101, and why does a minor have a facebook page??? Clearly crappy parenting. Drew how was the group homes?
Really?? January 25, 2013 at 03:36 AM
Drew tell me how was sleeping at the parks too few years back??
Really?? January 25, 2013 at 03:38 AM
I agree this is very disturbing, and there is more to this story. Someone needs to look more into this and a Christian needs to try to help this child. Racine County the land of witch hunt.
