Serial Texter Faces Multiple Felony Stalking Charges

Police say William Crockett sent such threatening text messages to women that they feared for their safety.

Police say a man used threatening text messages and calls to stalk several women, including two law enforcement officers. Now, he faces multiple counts of felony stalking.

William Crockett, 42, was charged Wednesday in Racine County Circuit Court with four felony counts of stalking and one misdemeanor count of using a computer to send threatening messages. If convicted, he faces up to 14 years, three months in jail and/or up to $41,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint, Crockett threatened at least four women via text message and the occasional phone call. He told three of the victims that he could overpower them, that he would rape them and kill them. Crockett also revealed details about their lives and daily routines in those messages and calls.

One woman became so frightened, she started changing her daily routine and slept with her gun under her pillow, the complaint reads.

The texts and calls started with one woman in August or September 2012 and continued with the other victims through Aug. 7, 2013.

When Crockett was taken into custody, police say he admitted to sending the texts and making the calls but that "they were just words." During questioning, Crockett said he would text women and get angry when they would tell him to stop and that he knew they believed his threats were credible even though he told officers he was just having fun.

Crockett was assigned a $75,000 cash bond during his initial appearance Wednesday. If he posts bail, he was ordered to not have any contact with the victims and to not use a telephone. His preliminary hearing is Aug. 21.
