Police Issue Reminder After Rash of Burglaries

Racine police are encouraging residents to secure their windows and doors after six south side residences were burglarized.

Because several south side residents have fallen victim to break-ins, Racine police are reminding people to lock their windows and doors when they leave or go to sleep.

Six homes in the Manree Park and West Racine neighborhoods were burglarized between August 1 and Sept. 1, Racine police Sgt. Jessie Metoyer confirmed.

In three of the incidents, intruders gained access through open or unlocked windows. One homeowner experienced a broken basement window while another had a broken window on the first floor. Only one had a theft from their garage.

What is noteworthy in three cases is that the burglaries occurred overnight while the property owners were home and asleep.

"We would urge residents to remember to secure all windows and doors before leaving or going to bed and report any suspicious persons or activity they see in the area," Metoyer said.

Incidents were reported:

  • 500 block of Hayes
  • 800 block of Hayes
  • 900 block of Blaine
  • 600 block of Kentucky
