Greendale Man Found Dead at Knight's Inn Identified

Racine County Medical Examiner Tom Terry believes Michael Raymond Doberstein, the man found deceased in the parking lot of the Knight's Inn Tuesday morning, may have died of a heart attack.

Mount Pleasant Police responded to a call at about 7:15 a.m. about a man found dead. According to Racine Uncovered, when officers arrived, they roped off a block of rooms and part of the parking lot. An employee at the motel found the man and called 911.

According to MPPD Sgt. Matthew Soens, Doberstein was a a 54-year-old white male from Greendale. His identity was not released to the media until his family had been notified. 

"It does not appear at this time that there was any foul play," Soens told Patch Friday while investigators were still at the scene. 

Terry confirmed Soens' statement, saying his office was ruling out causes for Doberstein's death. Alcohol was not a factor; neither was homicide, a stroke or a sharp blow to the head caused by falling because of intoxication.

"Preliminary tests do indicate a low level of barbituates so we are running more extensive tests to determine if drugs were an issue," he said. "But the more we look into this, the more I'm leaning toward cardiac arrest."

The man did have abrasions on his knees and elbows consistent from crawling, which he might have done during a heart attack, Terry added.

Doberstein's daughter-in-law said he's been estranged from his family for a while and just turned 54 Sunday, the ME stated.
