Gun, Drugs Lead to Charges Against Two Racine Men

Suspects allegedly have marijuana and a .45 caliber handgun inside a car involved in a shots fired call over the weekend.

Two Racine men are facing charges after they were allegedly caught with a gun and marijuana in their car by a Mount Pleasant police officer.

Hector J. Estrada, 19, was charged in Racine County Circuit Court Monday with one count of possession with intent to deliver THC, the active ingredient in marijunana, and Humberto Estrada, 18, was charged with one count of carrying a concealed weapon. If convicted, Hector faces up to 3 1/2 years in prison and Humberto faces up to nine months in prison.

According to the criminal complaint, at 3:33 a.m. Sunday, a Mount Pleasant police officer on patrol spotted a Pontiac Grand Am headed westbound on Highway 20 then take an illegal turn onto Oakes Road. The officer followed and pulled over the car and realized it was the same car involved in a shots fired call.

Sgt. Shawn Lueke told Patch that MPPD received two reports early Sundy morning of shots fired, and a resident in the 2200 block of Mead Street told officers they found a bullet hole in their truck.

"No one was hurt, but we're assuming the incidents are related," she said.

Both Estradas were passengers in the car when officers pulled it over, and police say there was an open bottle of tequila and gin inside. Hector Estrada had $952 incash on him and while being led to a squad car, the officer heard plastic crunching. The officer said he found a bag of marijuana with eight smaller bags of the drug inside.

Reports indicate officers searched the car and found a 9mm bullet inside a cigar wrapper and a .45 caliber handgun under the passenger seat.

Hector Estrada said the marijuana was for personal use and he got the money for a settlement for a dog bite.

Hector is currently in Racine County Jail on $5,000 bond. Humberto will make his initial appearance in court Nov. 29.
