UPDATE: Firefighters Quickly Quell Blaze at Apartments

The South Shore Fire Department Monday evening is responding to a report of a fire on 16th Street in Mount Pleasant.

The South Shore Fire Department on Monday battled and quickly brought under control a fire at the Greenbriar Apartments in Mount Pleasant.

The call came in around 6 p.m. Monday for a fire in the 5900 block of 16th Street. By 6:45 p.m., the fire was under control and firefighters were leaving the scene.

No injuries were reported. The extent of the damage was unknown, as was the cause of the blaze. The Caledonia Fire Department also responded to the call.

Battalion chief Jon Keiser said the damage to the apartments was contained to a small area and there was minimal damage. However officials from the Red Cross were helping residents find temporary shelter.
