American Horror Story Blog: Pissed Off Dead Teenagers

Re-caps, impressions and full-on discussion of American Horror Story, FX's new thrill show.

Welcome to the "Halloween, Part 2" episode of "American Horror Story."

We open with the last couple of minutes from the previous installment: Violet calling Ben about Larry Half-face at the door, Rubber Man standing behind her. But just when we think Rubber Man will grab Violet ... he disappears. She goes back upstairs to her room. Whew!

Or not. Who's hand is that creeeeeping out from under Violet's bed? Oh, man. Not. Good. But she walks away just in time because Tate is throwing pebbles at her window. She meets him outside. They hug. He gives her a black rose he painted because he knows she doesn't like normal things. They leave for their date.

And now Ben and Viv are home, the alarm is going off and Violet is not home. More banging on the door and it's Hayden (yes, I finally learned her name!). Still looking very dead and very crazy. At the Murder House, there's little difference, right? Ben slams the door in her face.

Violet is with Tate at the beach, I think. She calls her mom to say she's okay and yes, she'll be home in an hour. Violet and Tate kiss. Ew.

Viv finds Ben in the kitchen holding a large, kitchen knife and he makes something up about kids, pumkins, etc. Viv rightfully looks at him like he is crazy, tells him it's been a long day for both of them so she's going to take a bath and in the morning they will talk about Ben moving out.

Not so fast. Ben gets emotional and loud about not leaving and not giving up on their family. Viv makes a "whatever" face and walks away.

Now Ben is patroling outside with a shovel. He bashes Larry Half-face in the kisser with the shovel and accuses Larry of staging Hayden's murder, says the girl was at his door 10 minutes ago. Larry swears and asks if Hayden was pissed. Ben says he won't be a victim of a sick extortion.

Larry laughs and tells Ben he's screwed. "The dead having nothing left to lose." Then he starts cackling and teasing Ben about asking the wrong questions as Ben continues to pummel Larry, this time with fists. Next to the gazebo that, let's remember, covers Hayden's tomb and most probably the bodies of Larry's family, too.

Did anyone else's screen jiggle while Ben is yelling at Larry? Mine got very jumpy.

Anyway, Larry is pretty much warning Ben of what viewers already sort of know, but Ben is past mad at at this point and Larry asks Ben to kill him. "That way, I can come back and haunt you, too." So Ben promises to do just that if Larry ever comes back.

Morris Chestnut is at the front door because of the alarm going off. He tells Viv to send kids his way if they show up to do more damage. Since hiring him, Viv says she feels so much safer. Oh, Viv. I vacation in Denial, but I don't live there.

Violet and Tate are at the beach making out heavily. Violets wants to go further, but Tate says he can't because of the meds Ben gave him. Uh-huh. Don't know what that's about, but if Rubber Man can do it, why can't Tate? Anyway, Violet gets up to go home, but Tate isn't ready to leave so they cuddle more by the campfire they made on the beach.

Tate reveals a part of himself, saying that he used to come to the ocean when he was feeling bad then names a list of famous, high-school drop outs. Curt Cobain is on the list, but probably isn't a great example given his suicide and all, but that could just be me. But Tate says he hates high school so much that he just comes to the ocean and uses the vastness of the sea to relate to the infinite possibilities of his life.

A group of apparently dead high schoolers shows up and starts threatening Tate and Violet, but Tate successfully maneuvers their escape.

Hayden calls Viv and taunts her about Boston and how Ben says she tasted. Viv reveals that she once had an affair with a married man, but it doesn't ever work out. Hayden tells Viv again to ask Ben about Boston then hangs up. Viv throws her phone and just as shes taking off her nightgown(?), sees the words "ask him" written in the steam on the mirror.

Viv is understandably freaked out. Big time. "Hayden is in the house!" Ben tells that he will take care of it, but they are not calling the cops because squad cars with lights flashing in front of the Murder House on Hallween will not help the sell the place. He's not wrong.

So Mr. Harmon grabs a knife and goes to the basement where he finds Hayden and tells her that she has to leave. Hayden wants to kiss Ben but she starts spitting up globs of bloody ick and says she's rotting from the inside. Now she's shouting about having a gazebo on her grave instead of a headstone, that Ben threw her away as if she never existed.

Ben says Hayden needs professional help but then Larry smacks Ben with the shovel before trying to apologize to Hayden for killing her. Dead student says she will deal with Larry later, but first, she needs to deal with Vivien. Larry smiles and flicks his lighter. "Can I help?" he asks. "I haven't used this in a while."

Chad is outside destroying pumpkins and Viv runs out, telling him to stop, but Chad is mad. Viv ruined his Halloween and now it's her fault that Patrick is out trolling bars for unprotected blow jobs because she ruined the house. Viv says she's calling the security company and runs back inside. Chad yells that she just doens't get it. "Get out of my house!" he screams over and over again.

Hayden is in the full bathtub with a strange little smile but then the Harmon dog starts yipping and jumping in front of the bathroom door. To be honest, I forgot about the dog since we haven't seen it in such a long time. Hayden looks none too pleased but Viv is, of course, going to check it out. Is that steam of smoke coming from under the door? Smoke. Viv grabs the flaming towels and stomps out the fire.

Violet and Tate are in her room and she calls BS on him not knowing the kids at the beach when the kids show up at the house. Now Violet is really calling his bluff.

Hayden calls Viv again and pretty much says she's going to kill the dog in the kitchen. Judging from the bloody splotch in the mic, the pooch got cooked. Viv screams, as any of us would in the same situation.

Violet takes scissors outside to confront the dead high schoolers who laugh at Violet. They taunt her about the fact that they're dead and that Tate killed them. In various and disgusting ways. They surround Violet, but Tate arrives and then takes off running. The dead kids take off after him, and as Violet is on the phone calling the police (I presume), Crazy Connie grabs her and pulls her "to go inside. Addie is dead because of you!"

Cut to Viv in her bedroom. She must have run up there to escape ... but wait! The dog is outside her door, but so is Hayden. Dead student wants to enlighten Vivien, to tell her the truth about Boston, the pregnancy ... but wait! Hayden didn't know about Viv and starts mumbling and holding her belly so now Viv understands. Hayden smashes a picture frame, picks up a piece of glass and starts advancing on Viv.

Larry is doing something, not sure what, when Chad shows up and asks what Larry is doing to his house. And if that weren't bad enough, Ben is tied up (basement) and Mrs. Montgomery is standing over him saying that Ben is a disgrace to let "that ghoul take the only thing that gives (his) pathetic life any meaning at all." She unties Ben, saying she won't let another failure in the house and whispering "save the baby" in his ear.

Ben bursts into the bedroom as Hayden is about to cut the baby out of Vivien and admits that he's been back to Boston not just the one time, but another time before that. However, Viv activated her panic button so Morris Chestnut comes in with gun pointed at Hayden. We all know how much good that will do, though. Oh, boy.

Violet is in Constance's kitchen and the older woman is telling Violet about how Addie looked in the morgue, how she wanted to be a pretty girl. We see Crazy Connie putting makeup on Addie and hear her telling Violet how a parent feels the loss when a child dies. It's actually quite heartbreaking, and Violet apologizes for the loss.

They're sharing tea and cigarettes and we find out that Tate is Constance's son.

WHAT?!

Oh, man. Crazy Connie tells Violet that Tate cannot know that his sister has passed away, that he doesn't react well to certain things. She wants Violet to promise not to tell Tate, a boy with "too deep feelings" who has none of the steel that protects against some of the realities of life, steel that Constance and Violet both possess. Crazy Connie shows Violet a picture of Tate and Addie, smiling together.

Tate has run to the beach with the dead teenagers on his heels. One of the girls asks Tate if he believes in God because that's what he asked her before he put a gun to her head and pulled the trigger. The dead quarterback starts beating up Tate and the others join in, demanding an explanation. Tate has flashes to being at school, holding a gun.

Chloe, the cheerleader, begs Tate to just say what he did, but he screams that they need to get out of his head. No, she tells him, they're all right there, begging him to admit his guilt and saying that she should be 34 years old, married, with babies.

"I don't know you," Tate mutters, crying. The sun is rising as they walk away. One of the boys flips Tate off.

The sun is up and Moira is coming down the street. We see the twins, Mrs. Montgomery, the nurses, and Patrick. Moira tells Chad her mother is dead, but she couldn't go with her. Chad is not speaking to Patrick and says to maybe no one in particular that he is doomed forever to an unhappy, adulterous relationship working on the house, which will never be just the way he wants it.

Morris Chestnut is driving Hayden and asking why young girls who always fall for the wrong guy just throw their lives away. Of course she doesn't agree, says they were in love, but Ben was too weak to leave his wife. Morris says that pretending to kill the dog was just evil, and Hayden admits she used tomatoes, but it was just a stupid Halloween prank. Morris says she's going to jail, but when he goes to open the back door of his security car, Hayden is gone.

Ben is packing. He picks up the broken picture of his family and stares at it with a wistful expression. On his way out, he kisses Viv on the top of her head. She refuses to look at him, but her chin is doing the cry quiver. We hear the front door close.
