Democracy Campaign Executive Director to Speak at Racine AAUW Sept. Meeting

WISCONSIN DEMOCRACY CAMPAIGN EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TO SPEAK
AT SEPT. RACINE AAUW MEETING, RESERVATION DEADLINE SEPT. 4.

Mike McCabe, Executive Director of The Democracy
Campaign, will speak at the Racine AAUW meeting on Tuesday, September 11, at
the Racine Marriott, 7111 Washington Ave.

Study group displays will be at 5:30 p.m., registration
at 6:00 p.m., dinner at 6:30 p.m. and program at 7:30 p.m.  Reservations can be made by sending a $23.00
check, made out to Racine AAUW, to Pat Holt, PO Box 214, Somers, WI 53171.  The deadline for reservations is September 4.

While the program can be attended free-of-charge,
reservations are still requested in order to have enough seating.  Call 262-859-3085.

The Democracy Campaign, a non-partisan group that is
working to create a democracy that allows the common good to prevail over
narrow interests, specializes in tracking the money in state politics and works
for campaign finance reform.

During McCabe’s time with the Democracy Campaign, he has
led successful efforts to win passage and implementation of new finance
disclosure rules approved in 2010, the 2009 Impartial Justice Act establishing
publicly financed state Supreme Court elections, a landmark 2007 ethics
enforcement reform law and a 2006 “paper trail” bill requiring any electronic
voting equipment used in Wisconsin to produce a verifiable paper record.

He co-authored a textbook, The Framework of Your Wisconsin Government, which is still widely
used in Wisconsin elementary and secondary schools.  More recently, he co-authored Democratic Renewal:  A Call to Action from America’s Heartland.
