Village Residents Could See Tax Increase in 2014

Whether or not Mount Pleasant trustees raise taxes for the 2014 budget remains to be seen, but it is an option - albeit an unwelcome one - the board will have to consider to cover expenses.

David Maccoux from auditing firm Schenck SC presented the 2012 audit to the board Monday, and while it shows that Mount Pleasant started 2013 "relatively strong," 2014 might be a completely different picture, according to a story from The Journal Times.

Village President Mark Gleason believes there are going to be shortfalls in some village accounts and that it's imperative Mount Pleasant increase it's revenue, preferably without raising taxes.

The 2012 audit is being submitted to the state well ahead of the July 31 deadline, a vast improvement over the tardiness of both the 2011 and 2010 budgets. Missing the deadlines for both those years cost the village in state transportation aids and a downgraded credit rating.
