State GOP Sets Up New Office in Mount Pleasant

The 2014 gubernatorial election is well over a year away, but state Republicans aren't willing to miss any opportunities to connect with voters.

New GOP offices are popping up around the state, including in Mount Pleasant at 6100 Washington Avenue. State GOP Executive Director Joe Fadness made the announcement Monday in a press release on the party's website.

"Our announcement today is the next step in the unprecedented off-year investment our Party is making to ensure we continue to grow our base and share our positive message,” he said.

County GOP Chair Bill Folk said opening offices this far ahead of the election shows a commitment from Republicans to connect with communities and get back to the grass-roots organizing that proved so successful for Gov. Scott Walker during the recall election in 2012.

"These are state party offices, but there will be some local activities coming out of the office," he said. "The state party recognizes the need to recruit and train volunteers and that to get people to understand the principles of the party, we need to have a presence."

Without a physical presence, Folk added, it's hard to "espouse our views," but an office gives people the option to walk in and talk to someone.

"This effort is what the party truly stands for," he stated.

Additional offices opening in the next few weeks are in Sheboygan, La Crosse, and Milwaukee. Offices are already up and running in Eau Claire, Green Bay, Madison, and Waukesha.

The former GOP office, or Victory Center, was also located in Mount Pleasant but on Durand Avenue. Folk said he expects the new space to get the Victory Center moniker as well.
