Schulte Playground More Than Halfway to Goal After South Shore Pancake Breakfast

The South Shore Fire Department put on a pancake breakfast Saturday to help the Schulte School PTA raise money for a new playground.

The Schulte School playground has really old equipment that needs replacement big time.

But, replacing an entire playground is pricey - around $40,000 - and the school district budget doesn't allocate funds to help beyond $5,000 each for three schools each year.

Parents in the Schulte PTA decided enough was enough and decided to raise the money themselves. Knowing what a steep hill they had to climb, the South Shore Fire union had an idea to help: throw a pancake breakfast.

Several area businesses donated food and equipment, including coffee and donuts from Dunkin' Donuts, and a special visit from several characters from Star Wars kept kids of all ages in awe.

According to Leann Pomeroy of the Schulte PTA, the breakfast paid off in a nice way by raising over $3,300, which puts the group more than half-way to their goal!
