Police: Man Steals 2 Computers on the Same Day

Mount Pleasant police say a man walked into Best Buy to steal a computer and returned five minutes later to take another one.

A 28-year-old man with a last known address in Michigan is accused of stealing two computers valued at over $2,000 from Best Buy on the same day.

Brandon Harris was charged Wednesday in Racine County Circuit Court with one count of felony retail theft. If convicted, he faces up to 3-1/2 years in prison and/or up to $10,000 in fines.

According to the criminal complaint, Mount Pleasant police were called on March 2 to Best Buy, 2710 S. Green Bay Road, for a report of retail theft. When officers arrived, store security said they observed a man - later identified out of a photo line-up as Harris - make his way to the computer section and select a desktop unit worth $1,099.

Then, he just walked out of the store with it without paying, the complaint reads.

Five minutes later, police say Harris returned to Best Buy. This time, he picked out a slightly less expensive unit - $929 - and again exited the store without paying.

A complaint against Harris was filed on July 29 and a warrant was issued for his arrest. He appeared in court Wednesday with an attorney and was assigned a $5,000 signature bond. Harris was ordered to not have any contact with Best Buy and to visit the Racine County Sheriff's office to have his photograph and fingerprints taken.

Harris will next be in court on Sept. 19 for a preliminary hearing.
