Two burglaries that happened within hours of each other have official with the Sturtevant Police Department issuing a warning to residents to keep their windows and doors locked.

On Monday morning an apartment building in the 3100 block of 86th Street and the other in a single-family home in the 3200 block of Kensington Square were burglarized.

While a resident was in an adjoining room in the apartment building, someone entered an unlocked window and took several items. There was no sign of forced entry, according to a crime alert by the Sturtevent Police Department.
In the second burglary – while an adult and two children slept in bedrooms on the second floor – someone also entered through an unlocked window. However, the alert didn’t indicate what was taken from the home.

A witness told police they saw a person described as a black heavy-set man leaving in a silver car. No further description was given.
