Photo Gallery: Holiday Food Drive Fun

A great crowd of about 100 braved the gusty evening to bring in donations of food and cash for the Racine County Food Bank.

The Mount Pleasant-Sturtevant Holiday Food Drive brought together volunteers, music, cookies, hot chocolate, face painting, balloon decorating and ... Santa! For an hour on a cold and windy December night, friends and neighbors enjoyed each other's company to benefit the Racine County Food Bank. At the end of evening, community members piled 1,680 pounds of food in the lobby of Mount Pleasant Village Hall and filled the donation buckets with $1,056 to help stock the shelves of the Food Bank.

Mount Pleasant-Sturtevant Holiday Food Drive Bags Over 1,600 Pounds of Food

Area companies and residents gave generously to the Racine County Food Bank.

Once again proving that when we're needed, we answer the call, our community donated almost two tons of food and over $1,000 to the Racine County Food Bank. Food and cash were collected on Thurs., Dec. 15, during the first Mount Pleasant-Sturtevant Holiday Food Drive, organized by a group of local officials to help stock the shelves of the Food Bank after learning the Holiday Train would not stop in Sturtevant this year. Dan Taivalkoski, executive director of the Food Bank, tallied it all up on Fri., Dec. 16: 1,680 pounds of food and $1,073.54 plus a $1,000 check from Canadian Pacific Railway, sponsors of the Holiday Train. Earlier this fall, a CP Rail spokesperson said a donation would still come, but it was unknown at the time how much …

Wild Wisconsin Winds Move Holiday Food Drive Indoors

Wind gusts over 30 mph prompted organizers to move the Food Drive inside.

The weather outside is a little frightful, and while Santa might be used to gusting winds, organizers of the Mount Pleasant-Sturtevant Holiday Food Drive thought visitors will prefer the warmth of indoors. All residents are invited to the Food Drive tonight, Dec. 15, from 7 to 8 pm at Mount Pleasant Village Hall, 8811 Campus Drive. South Shore Fire Chief William Bouma put together a committee of volunteers to help stock the shelves of the Racine County Food Bank once he learned the Holiday Train was not stopping in Sturtevant. Music from True Life Ministries and the Smiler Grogan Case jazz trio will provide the festive back-drop for enjoying goodies donated by the Washington Avenue Piggly Wiggly, face painting and balloon decorating by …

Fun Family Holiday Food Drive for Racine County Food Bank

With the Holiday Train not stopping in Sturtevant this year, volunteers are stepping forward to make sure the Food Bank shelves stay full in 2011.

When it was announced that the Holiday Train wouldn't stop in Sturtevant in 2011, South Shore Fire Chief William Bouma knew he had to help. The Holiday Train has been an annual event that features a full-size locomotive and freight cars wrapped in thousands of lights to raise awareness and donations for the Racine County Food Bank. For ten years, CP Rail has sponsored the festivities, providing a friendly, community event that packed a powerful punch for the Food Bank. The evening always included live entertainment and a visit from Santa to help draw hundreds of citizens and raised thousands - in pounds of food and money - for the Food Bank. And while the Train will be missed this year, there will be a party to help the Racine County Food …
