A judge Monday sentenced Ashley Haigh to three years probation.
Sturtevant teenager Ashley Haigh was sentenced to probation Monday after pleading no contest in January to stealing a man's truck, but she was accused of also taking cash and the man's puppy to boot. According to the criminal complaint, Haigh, 16, was accused of setting up a date online with a man who turned out to be a registered sex offender. After he fell asleep during their date on Dec. 2 2012, the man said she took off with his SUV, $600 in cash and his pitbull puppy. Police say Haigh told the man she was 19 so he was not charged since he reportedly showed officers the texts and instant message conversations where she lied about her age. Residents who live near the home where convicted sex offender Michael Fink will live attended a meeting Wednesday to learn more about the process and ask questions.
About 40 residents who live in the 16th and Memorial neighborhood attended a sex offender notification meeting Wednesday at the 16th Street COP house. The meeting was hosted by the Racine Police Department, and the Department of Corrections, the Department of Human Services to help neighbors understand what it means that Michael Fink will be moving in to 1605 S. Memorial Drive. Neighors were told they wouldn't be allowed to speak during the presentation portion of the evening, but they could turn in cards with questions that officials would try and answer during a short Q&A session. The Racine Police Department has scheduled a community meeting Wednesday to talk to neighbors about the release of convicted sex offender Michael Fink. According to a notice from the RPD, the meeting is scheduled from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the 16th Street COP House, 1900 16th Street. Representatives from the Racine Police Department, Wisconsin Department of Corrections and the Sand Ridge Secure Treatment Facility will be on hand to make the presentation. Fink, 45, will live at 1605 S. Memorial Drive and will not be allowed to leave the house unless he has a chaperone. Michael Fink will move back to the City of Racine by March 7.
Convicted sex offender Michael Fink will become a resident of Racine once again, Racine County Circuit Court Judge Eugene Gasiorkiewicz ruled Thursday. The court hearing was to determine that an acceptable residence has been found and that the parties agree on a release date. Fink will live in a single-family home at 1605 S. Memorial Drive on or before March 7. Fink has been incarcerated since 1994, when he was convicted of sexually assaulting two, 12-year-old girls who were babysitting his stepchildren. Rep. Peter Barca, D-Kenosha, is asking for the Joint Legislative Audit Committee to review the process for choosing where sex offenders will live after release.

Racine County Circuit Court Judge Eugene Gasiorkiewicz told state Department of Health Services officials Thursday to make finding a new placement for convicted sex offender Michael Fink one of their highest priorities. The status hearing was scheduled after the state Attorney General's office and DHS officials discovered that Fink's proposed residence at 918 Lathrop Avenue was only a block or two away from one of his victims. Fink was to have been released from Sand Ridge Secure Treatment Center in Mauston into a supervised release program by Friday, but that has been put on hold until a new home for him is found. A Sturtevant teenager had the cops looking for her after a sex offender called to report she left his place with more than a memory. The 35-year-old sex offender told officers he met 16-year-old Ashley Haigh online, and that he invited her to his place after she told him she was 19. But, at the end of her visit, she took $600 cash, his truck and his pitbull puppy, he told police. Haigh was charged Monday in Racine County Circuit Court with a single count each of felony theft from a person or corpse; operating a motor vehicle without the owner's consent; theft of moveable property (special facts); and a single count of misdemeanor theft. The Racine Police Department is hosting a public information meeting Thursday at Fratt School because a sex offender is moving into the neighborhood.
West Racine and Manree Park residents received calls Tuesday from the Racine Police Department about a public information meeting this week because a convicted sex offender is moving into the neighborhood. Michael Fink, 44, will be moving to 918 Lathrop Avenue later this month. He was convicted in 1994 of two counts of second degree sexual assault of a child. Fink also has a 1987 conviction of second degree sexual assault. According to a release from RPD, Fink spent about 14 years in prison and in 2008 was confined to Sand Ridge Secure Treatment Facility after being indentified as a sexually violent person.
