The volunteer committee served up good food, good fun and a visit from Santa!
The Sturtevant 2012 Fireworks fundraising campaign got off with a bang in the form of a great dinner and a visit from Santa. 180 friends and neighbors contributed over $1,000 by buying tickets to share an abundance of food donated by DeRango's; mostocciolli and salad, bread from Lehmen's, cookies came in Christmas shapes from O & H Bakery, and condiments from Castlewood, J.Q. Foxes and the Hiawatha. There might have been another couple hundred dollars from both the donation buckets and the raffle tickets. With about $1,500 still left in the fireworks fund from 2011, this money puts the Fireworks Festival fund at just over 10 percent of the total $20,000 cost for the annual event. What do you like best about the Sturtevant fireworks?

Winds might gust up to 45 mph in lakeshore counties today.
Santa might go flying sideways into the neighbor's yard with some of the wind gusts expected today. If you've put out your holiday lawn decorations or still have summer patio furniture outside, make sure everything is tied down and secure. A wind advisory is in affect all day today, Nov. 29, and isn't expected to expire until midnight. The advisory is for Ozaukee, Milwaukee, Racine and Kenosha counties. Gusts could reach up to 45 mph with sustained wind speeds expected in the 30 mph-range. The weather, otherwise, is seasonal, according to WTMJ 4 News: partly cloudy with temperatures reaching 38 by the afternoon.

The Sturtevant Fireworks Committee is holding its first fundraiser in December for the 2012 display.
As the weather turns colder and the shorter, greyer days seem to stretch interminably into the future, it's almost painful to think of a breezy summer night filled with fireworks. But close your eyes and take yourself there. Then, take your family to the 2012 Sturtevant Fireworks Festival Mostoccioli Dinner from 4 to 8 pm on Sat., Dec. 3, 2011 at Village Hall. Lots of great food is being provided by a host of local restaurants and the Park High School Choir will make a special appearance to sing songs of the season. The evening would not be complete, however, without a visit from Santa himself! He'll have goodies and some fun activities for the kids. "Raising the money to put on the annual Sturtevant Fireworks Festival takes time and a lot…

With the Holiday Train not stopping in Sturtevant this year, volunteers are stepping forward to make sure the Food Bank shelves stay full in 2011.
When it was announced that the Holiday Train wouldn't stop in Sturtevant in 2011, South Shore Fire Chief William Bouma knew he had to help. The Holiday Train has been an annual event that features a full-size locomotive and freight cars wrapped in thousands of lights to raise awareness and donations for the Racine County Food Bank. For ten years, CP Rail has sponsored the festivities, providing a friendly, community event that packed a powerful punch for the Food Bank. The evening always included live entertainment and a visit from Santa to help draw hundreds of citizens and raised thousands - in pounds of food and money - for the Food Bank. And while the Train will be missed this year, there will be a party to help the Racine County Food …

What a great event that truly illustrates what community means! South Shore Fire personnel turned out and Sturtevant PD helped serve, too. Thanks for letting me be part of it.   more ›
