@ Heather and Denise. You keep telling us that government union workers have given up higher wages available to them in the private sector. Where is that? Muni garbage collectors, teachers, mechanics, truck drivers, police, et. al. make considerably more than their private sector contemporaries. Then consider the pension deal. Nobody in the private sector has gotten a pension in decades. The …   more ›

Barry was an influential judge in his three decades on the bench. He helped write the state's Juvenile Justice Code in the mid-1990s, a change which allowed younger children to be charged as adults for serious crimes.

A memorial service for Judge Dennis Barry will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Sept. 25 at Roma Lodge, 7130 Spring St. Racine County Circuit Court Judge Dennis Barry was found dead after he committed suicide in a City of Racine park in August. Roma Lodge Emergency Caused by Broken Sprinkler Head

The alarm signaling a full response brought out South Shore and Caledonia departments.

Both the South Shore and Caledonia fire departments pulled out the big guns for a call from Roma Lodge on July 5, but the only tool they needed for the emergency was a squeegy. According to Chief William Bouma of South Shore, a call came into dispatch about 6:36 pm triggered by a tripped sprinkler. The facility had just hosted a banquet and guests had been gone for about an hour. "No smoke or fire, but a lot of water," he said. "We found the broken sprinkler head outside the men's bathroom in the back." There was a lot of water damage, Bouma added. "Those sprinklers can put out 25 to 30 gallons of water per minute," he stated. "We got here fast, but I can't confirm how much was discharged before we got it turned off." Damage estimates …
