Story of Mom Who Has Overcome Obstacles Wins Patch Contest

Allison Feix says her mother is tops because she has raised two children while caring for a quadriplegic husband who is also fighting leukemia.

From moms that rock the volunteer scene to moms who always know the right thing to say, dozens of entries into Patch's "Why My Mom is Best" contest warmed our hearts and made us smile. But amid all the spectacular stories was a daughter's touching tale about her mother's battle with cancer while helping a quadriplegic husband with leukemia that stole our hearts.  "My mom, Lynn, deserves an escape," Allison Feix wrote about her mother, Lynn Molter. "She's raised two kids and works as a medical technologist, while being the care taker for my father, who has leukemia and has been a quadriplegic for the past twenty seven years. She is a recent breast cancer survivor, who puts the needs of her loved ones before her own. Some time away would be …

Readers' Choice: Weekend Breakfast or Brunch

Which restaurant serves your perfect weekend breakfast? Whether it's an early-morning coffee and pastry, sweet French toast or savory egg dish, Patch is looking to name the best spot for a weekend breakfast/brunch in town.

One of the biggest brunch days of the year is on its way: Mother's Day. But really, every weekend is an excuse for a great breakfast or brunch out.  During the week, breakfast might be a granola bar eaten in the car on the way to work, but on the weekend, people tend to make time to eat. Pancakes, French toast, eggs, pastries and slowly sipping coffee are perfect for weekend trips to your favorite dining spot.  Patch wants to find out your Mount Pleasant and Sturtevant favorites, so tell us in the comments. We're taking submissions through the end of the day Monday. Voting will take place Tuesday-Friday, with a winner named at the end of next week.

Hey what happened to my comment?? Oh well. For holiday brunch I would say Marriott. But they are getting to be too expensive. Regular breakfast - Annettas for sure.   more ›

Guide to Racine's Mother's Day Brunches

Not sure where to take Mom for Mother's Day? Here are some eggcellent choices.

When I think of Mother's Day...roses do not pop into my head, a diamond ring is too unlikely to consider and heck, I can buy chocolates any ol' day. What I do droolingly think about is BRUNCH!! Ah, yes. Tables and tables of delectables in which to stuff my face while sipping mimosas and letting my husband deal with the kids' bickering and sugar highs. Often times it seems we need to search through a million different mediums to find the perfect brunch fit. Casual or fancy? Expensive or affordable? Early or late? So I have complied a Racine Area Mother's Day Brunch Guide to help you choose which of our many fine restaurants you would like to visit this Sunday (yes, dads and children, THIS Sunday...you're running out of time!!). Enjoy and …
