Fancy data, contrasting numbers, questionable tactics...welcome to the new world of Wisconsin politics.
As I write this, there are merely 18 short days before the long awaited recall election. Our television and radio waves have been inundated with endless political ads. All of the mailings we receive daily likely destroyed some pretty forest somewhere. And the tension between co-workers, family members, friends and online commenters could not be any more impenetrable. The day so many of us have been waiting for is almost here and I, for one, could not be more impatient. Facebook, radio, television, blogs, newspapers, websites, Twitter…there is a buttload of information out there and for some reason – it seems to make things all the more confusing. For every pro-Walker piece, there is a disputing pro-Barrett piece. And vice versa. For the …

Jurors have convicted Sean Forester-Hoare of killing Jonathan Kwiatkowski. He will be sentenced to life in prison.
Sean Forester-Hoare, 30, of Wind Point, was guilty of first-degree intentional homicide for the April 4, 2011 murder of his neighbor, Jonathan Kwiatkowski. Forester-Hoare stabbed Kwiatkowski in the neck during an altercation about Kwiatkowski's driving. Several members of the Kwiatkowski family took part in the physical fight that preceded the stabbing. The jury -- comprised of nine men and three women -- also convicted Forester-Hoare of two counts of recklessly endangering safety for the injuries he caused Kwiatkowski's parents, Lori and Timothy. Just after the verdict was read, the Kwiatkowski family left the courtroom gallery and went into commons area of the Racine County Law Enforcement Center. Hugging and in tears, they all repeated …

You know those really cute Google logo drawings? Well Dylan Hoffman, a student at Prairie School, earned enough votes to beat out the other finalists and now he's won a hefty sum of money for college and his school.
Who knew little Dylan Hoffman's Google doodle would garner so much support, and quite a bit of attention. But he earned it, according to a story in the Journal Times. The seven-year-old Caledonia boy took out his markers and drew a pirate-themed Google logo that has earned him a spot among 50 finalists in their Doodle 4 Google competition. So what did Dylan and his mom, Katherin “I fainted,” Dylan said. His mom, Katharina Hoffman, quickly clarified — he didn’t faint, but he was almost falling down from excitement. “He was kind of shocked a little bit, it’s just quite a bit for a little boy,” said Katherina Hoffman, 37, a project manager. His drawing is titled "Pirate Times," and his description said: If I could travel in time, I'd visit …

A jury of three women and nine men have to discern whether or not Sean Forester-Hoare killed Jonathan Kwiatkowski on April 4, 2011, if he intended to do it and if he was in a position of imminent death or danger.
In the early morning hours of April 4, 2011—the night Sean Forester-Hoare’s knife sliced into Jonathan Kwiatkowski’s throat—did Forester-Hoare act in self-defense or was he a ticking time bomb? A jury of three women and nine men are now deciding just that, as they try to reach a verdict in the trial for the 30-year-old Wind Point man, charged with one count of first-degree intentional homicide and two counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety. Racine County District Attorney Rich Chiapete told the jury that this was an easy case to decide because they had “heard everything” and he painted Forester-Hoare as “a ticking time bomb waiting to go off and the Kwiatkowski’s were unfortunately there when he went off and they couldn’t …

Jurors are expected to deliberate on that question today, after attorneys in the Sean Forester-Hoare homicide trial finish closing arguments.
Closing arguments are happening now in the homicide trial for Sean Forester-Hoare, 30, the Wind Point man charged with killing 21-year-old Jonathan Kwiatkowski on April 4, 2011. The two neighbors got into a fight about Kwiatkowski's driving in the early morning hours of April 4, 2011, and the Kwiatkowski family joined in the altercation in the driveway. During the fight, Forester-Hoare pulled out a knife and fatally stabbed Jonathan Kwiatkowski. In his trial this week, Forester-Hoare is claiming self-defense. Forester-Hoare took the stand on Thursday, according to a story in The Journal Times, and he testified that he had been outside taking cut-up cardboard to the curb, when Kwiatkowski almost hit him with his car. “Tim punched me in …
The whole school turned out in specially decorated Defender Masks with real-life heroes from South Shore Fire and the Sturtevant Police Departments for an anti-bullying parade.
Schulte Elementary School in Sturtevant has focused all year on what being a hero means. Part of that curriculum includes messages on being a friend and not being a bully. Students, teachers, staff and parents turned out for a year-end parade with real-life heroes from the South Shore Fire and Sturtevant Police Departments. Carrying signs that declared Schulte a bully-free zone and touting their hero status, students and teachers wore masks they'd decorated themselves. "These are their Defender Masks," teacher Linda Haas said. "Being a defender means standing up for one another, including kids in play or homework help and respecting and accepting differences."
Kraig Karson, one of the afternoon personalities from 103.7 Kiss FM, and Hannah Kultgen, a 2005 graduate of St. Catherine's, will provide commentary on the red carpet at Post Prom 2012.
Have you heard? This year's Post Prom red carpet hosts will be Kraig Karson from 103.7 Kiss FM and Hannah Kultgen, a graduate of St. Cat's. This is Karson's first time out, but Kultgen is returning for her second year as co-host. Karson is not afraid to admit that he was not the first choice to co-host the red carpet for Post Prom 2012, but he said he is a little anxious about having to dress up. Wes McKane, one of the morning drive personalities, hosted with Kultgen last year and was asked back, but a scheduling conflict had him turning to Karson. "Wes really wanted to do it so when he told me about how amazing this event is and how much fun he had, I had to say 'yes,'" he told Patch during a phone interview Thursday. "I've looked up the …
