Photo Gallery: Sturtevant Pancake Breakfast Raises Money for Fireworks

This was the committee's first try at putting together a pancake breakfast, an Easter egg hunt and a visit from the Easter Bunny. If the looks on the faces of the children present are any indication, the morning was an unqualified success.

Since 2007, the Sturtevant fireworks has not been part of the village's annual budget. Instead, the annual festival has been funded by the efforts of a committee and the generosity of the corporate and private citizens in the area.

Each year, the festival costs between $16,000 and $20,000 each year.

The committee Saturday hosted a pancake breakfast with an Easter egg hunt complete with a visit from the Easter Bunny.

"I'm really pleased how many people came out today," said Trustee Linda Busha, head of the committee. "It really seems like people want these types of family events, so I think we'll do it again next year."

All told, about 300 people came through and paid $7 each for all-you-can-eat pancakes, bought raffle tickets for baskets of donated goods from area companies like Ruud Lighting and Starbucks, even a pair of box seat from the Brewers, and cheered when the Easter Bunny arrived in a South Shore Fire truck.

Busha said after the numbers are tallied, the committee will add about $1,500 to the fireworks fund. A mostaccioli dinner last December netted over $2,000.
