Sturtevant Streets Playing Host to Ruud Rush, Jingle Bell Run

Running around takes on a new meaning for the village in 2012!

Runners will pound the pavement in Sturtevant this year during two different events.

First up is the Ruud Rush 5K on Sat., May 19. Runners will follow a route that begins and ends at Ruud, but also takes them through the north side of the village, past both the St. Bonaventure ponds and Fireman's Park.

More than 1,200 runners and walkers have registered for the 2012 event so far, and registration remains open even the morning of the race. Runners and walkers who register online will get charged $17 before May 8. That price goes up to $20 after May 8.

"We're keeping prices the same as 2011, and for about $4, runners and their families can get a good breakfast, too," said Lisa Fiorita, race director. "Last year we had people lining the streets to cheer on the runners, and we're looking forward to more of the same this year. This is a great family event."

Because Ruud is undergoing a 208,000 square foot expansion, the race course is being modified slightly from the 2011 route and is expected to get certified by the end of March.

Visit the Ruud Rush website for more information about participating in the race as a runner, walker or volunteer. All proceeds from the Ruud Rush will be donated to RADD (Recreational Activities for the Developmentally Disabled).

Later this year comes the Jingle Bell Run. Runners will bundle up on Dec. 1 and done their holiday finest to help raise money for the Arthritis Foundation.

This 5K walk/run is routed to take participants on a tour of the Renaissance Business Park roadways and pathways. The 2012 website is under construction, but registration is expected to begin later this spring or early this summer.

Sturtevant trustees on Tuesday unanimously approved resolutions for both runs and for village employees like the Department of Public Works and the Police Department to work with the organizers on the details.
