Statement Regarding Budget Vote in the Senate

The Wisconsin State Senate passed the budget by a 17-16 vote with all Democratic Senators and Republican Dale Schultz (R-Richland Center) voting against the budget.  

Republican Senators made this an easy ‘no’ vote today. They added so many policy items and special interest handouts that they even forced one of their colleagues in the Senate and three of them in the Assembly to vote against it.

It is shameful what Republicans did to public education. Today officially marks the end of the Republican’s commitment to public education by creating a new less accountable statewide voucher school program. Just two years after cutting public school revenue by $1.6 billion in the last budget, Republicans have determined that Wisconsin’s underperforming voucher schools are the answer.

Racine will see a many changes with the passage of this budget. Republicans have continually used our community as a guinea pig for their half-baked, harebrained ideas like bail bondsmen and additional voucher expansion.
