Students Help Finish 'World's Biggest Prom' Preparations
Rotary's Post Prom event draws students from eight high schools in Racine.
As of Thursday evening, Cirque d’Onze was coming together nicely.
The French circus theme (onze means 11) was chosen by the Rotary Post Prom Committee, made up of students from all eight Racine high schools.
Julie Craig, of Caledonia, is serving as Post Prom chair this year for the Downtown Rotary as the organization gets ready for the event. The Post Prom has been holding since 1953. She was joined at Festival Hall Thursday evening by members of the committee and other volunteers to decorate the venue for the annual event.

Case senior Andrea Gutierrez was among the students helping put the finishing touches on Festival Hall for Saturday’s event.
“It really is a big thing,” Gutierrez said of Post Prom. “I like the theme, it really makes it more interactive with the games.”

The event starts Saturday with arrivals at Festival Hall around 9 p.m. The event, complete with bleachers, will be broadcast live on Time Warner Cable channel 25 (CAR 25). Craig said the event goes until 3 a.m. for the students.
In addition to a DJ, the event will feature a karaoke stage in Festival Park with “Minute To Win It”-type challenges on the same stage. At midnight, magician Bob Bolm will perform on the stage in Festival Park. A stilt walker, juggler and fortune teller are also planned for the event, keeping with the circus theme.
Jake Fedrigon and Melissa Wemmert, seniors from Racine Lutheran and Walden, respectively, were helping string lights on the booths for the games.
Wemmert said she enjoyed her time on the Post Prom planning group.
“It’s good to meet other kids and get opinions from people from all the schools,” she said.
Anthony Henderson, a Park High school sophomore, said he also liked the theme.
“It’s good, because any color goes with it,” he said. “I can’t wait to see all my senior friends before they leave for college.”
Gutierrez, the Case senior, said this event is one of the final events of her high school career.
“It’s this and then graduation,” she said. “This is a big thing for us.”
