AARP Driver Safety

Cars have changed. So have traffic rules, driving conditions, and the roads we drive on every day. AARP Driver Safety is the nation’s first and largest driver safety course intended to help drivers remain safe on today’s roads. The class is open to drivers of all ages, AARP members and nonmembers, and there are no tests. Not only can taking this class help avoid a crash, it may also mean getting a reduced car insurance rate.

AARP Driver Safety is intended to provide all drivers, especially those who are 50 and older, with a classroom course that helps them improve their driving skills, drive crash-free, sustain mobility and maintain independence.

In the four hour AARP Driver Safety course you will learn:

  • How to manage the effects of aging on driving.
  • Proper following distance behind another car.
  • How to safely make turns at busy intersections.
  • Steps for driving through a roundabout.
  • How to manage dangerous blind spots.
  • Safe ways to change lanes.
  • How to eliminate distractions while driving.
  • Effects of medications on driving.
  • Proper use of safety belts, air bags, anti-lock brakes.

The AARP Driver Safety course will be hosted by Fountain Hills on Wednesday July 18th from Noon to 4:00 p.m.at 1100 Fountain Hills Dr Racine, WI 53406. The class will be taught by Linda and Chuck Miles, volunteer instructors with AARP Driver Safety in Wisconsin.

The fee for this course is $12.00 for AARP members and $14.00 for non-members.

Through AARP Driver Safety’s 2012 Educator Appreciation Promotion, current and retired educators, and individuals who have worked for a school district or university in any capacity, may take the AARP Driver Safety classroom course for just $5 in July and August (a savings of up to $9). This includes everyone from teachers, custodians, secretaries, aides, pre-school teachers, college professors, guidance counselors, band directors, school nurses, Sunday school teachers, cafeteria workers, and even parents who home-school their children.
