Case Football Breaks 39-Game Losing Streak

The Eagles beat the Union Grove Broncos 31-13 at Hammes Field on Aug. 19.

It had been nearly five years since the  Eagles won a football game. That changed Aug. 19, when the Eagles beat the Union Grove Broncos 31-13 at Hammes Field.

The last game the team won was its Sept. 29, 2006 victory over South Milwaukee, The Journal Times reported

The atmosphere at Hammes Field was jubilant, the paper reported.

There was some celebration afterward as players reacted as if they had just won the state championship and the songs "Ain't No Mountain High Enough," "I'm A Believer," and "Glory Days," blared from the stadium speakers.

The paper reported the stands were about 80 percent full Friday night, and players said that gave them an edge.

"The fans coming out here and supporting us gave us a big boost," running back Dylan Thillemann told The Journal Times. "They know they can believe in us and we're about to change things around this year. Them cheering us on just made us want to play harder and harder."
