Budgeting for Wisconsin's Future: Speaker's Briefing for May 24, 2013

Assembly Speaker Robin Vos (R-Rochester) speaks on goals in the budget including education, a "buy local" food grant program and income tax reforms.

Hello, I am state Representative Robin Vos.

This week the legislature focused on crafting the new state budget. The Joint Finance Committee has approved important aspects of the two year spending plan. This includes common sense reforms to help people on food stamps get worker training and find a job.

We're also funding essential initiatives like the Buy Local Buy Wisconsin program.  This “local food industry” grant program creates jobs and gives the state a great return on its investment.

With every vote on the budget, our goal is to look out for the best interests of taxpayers. We want to save money where we can and reform government to reduce fraud, waste and abuse.

Our top priorities continue to be education to ensure every child gets a quality education, and income tax reform so you can keep more of your hard-earned money in your pocket.

It is our intention to invest in the priorities that will benefit our economy and get people back to work.

As we head into the holiday weekend, I want to wish you and your family a Happy Memorial Day.  I hope you have the opportunity to pay tribute to those who laid down their lives for our freedom.

Have a safe weekend.
