$100 Million in Property Tax Relief: Speaker's Briefing for Oct. 10, 2013

I’m State Representative Robin Vos and this is the Speaker’s Briefing.

This week I joined Governor Walker and Senator Fitzgerald in announcing $100 million in property tax relief. This will help families and businesses make the most of their incomes. We are able to do this because of the smart—and sometimes difficult—budgeting decisions we’ve made over the last three years. Those decisions have resulted in one of the largest income tax cuts in state history, regular budget surpluses, and more deposits into the rainy day fund.

Wisconsin families deserve this kind of relief after enduring a 27% increase in property taxes in the decade before Republicans were elected to control both the legislature and the governor’s office. We reversed that trend and, since 2011, have held the line on taxes.

Both the Assembly and the Senate will hold a special session to make sure we get this relief to working families just as quickly as possible. You should see a difference on your property tax bill right away this December.

This is just one of the ways we can grow our economy. We all know that private sector jobs aren’t created by politicians in Madison. What Wisconsin Republicans have done is create an environment where the private sector can thrive. If we keep on this path, our state will see success for years to come.

We’ve removed the ability to reply as we work to make improvements. Learn more here
