Fun Is On Stage This Weekend

Fun is all over the place in Racine County this weekend — especially on stage. You'll find comedy and something for the kids. Real Racine has these tips.

Shows for the kids.  The Racine Children's Theatre, 2519 Northwestern Ave., opens a new season with "You Ain't Nothin' But a Werewolf."  It's a play about a high school kid's accidental transformation into a scary beast and singing star. Performances are at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. Friday and at 12, 2 and 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. All seats are just $6. RCT also offers ticket packages. Call 262-633-4218 or visit www.racinetheatre.org

Laughs on the way.  A parody is on tap for the 2013-14 Comedy Tonight season opener at the Racine Theatre Guild at 8 p.m. Saturday. "Life Coach Lurlene" is a spoof of self-help seminars presented by Laura Berman Fortgang. Tickets are $17 for adults, $15 for seniors and $12 for students. Season ticket packages are available for this show and others in November, February and March.  Call the RTG box office at 262-633-4218 or visit www.racinetheatre.org

Comedy times four.  "Short Attention Span Theatre" continues at the Sixth Street Theatre, 318 Sixth St. with performances Friday through Sunday and next weekend (Oct. 11-13). The Over Our Head Players present four one-act comedies for an evening of laughs. Call 262-632-6802 or visit www.overourheadplayers.org for tickets and show times.

A mummy, really?  Bet you didn't know the Racine Heritage Museum, 701 Main St., has an authentic Egyptian mummy.  You and your family can see it during "Mind Your Mummy", a pre-Halloween event during First Friday from 5-9 p.m. on Friday. The kids are encouraged to wear costumes to visit multiple stations with candy. First Friday is also free admission at the Racine Art Museum, 441 Main St., live music all over Downtown along with open houses at shops and galleries.

A day at the river.  Everyone is invited to Pedal, Paddle and Stroll along the Root River this Saturday. Free kayak, canoe and bicycle rentals start at 10 a.m. at the Root River Environmental Education Community Center, 1301 W. Sixth St. You can float or paddle in the river, ride the bike paths or just take leisurely walk. The event is sponsored by the City Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services, Root River Environmental Education Community Center and 3rd Coast Bicycles.

Last call for the Wind Point Lighthouse.  Sunday is the last "Tour to the Top" for 2013 at the Wind Point Lighthouse, 4725 Lighthouse Dr., Wind Point. The Friends of the Wind Point Lighthouse sponsor this opportunity to climb the 108-foot structure and see some spectacular lake and fall scenery. The tours run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and cost $10 for adults and $5 for kids ages 6 through 12. Reservations are a must. Call 262-880-8266.
