Theater, Art and Comedy Here This Weekend

The holidays are over, but you don't have to stay home this weekend. Real Racine has the scoop on theater, art and comedy.

    The holidays are over, but you don't have to stay home!  This weekend's Racine County entertainment options include comedy, art and children's theater. Come along with Real Racine for these suggestions.

 

            New take on an old story. "Little Red Riding Hoodie" is the Racine Children's Theatre weekend presentation. In this version of the classic tale, Red is a modern gal who wears a zipped-up hoodie and outsmarts the wolf who has a sweet tooth.  Performances are at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. Friday and at noon, 2 and 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Racine Theatre Guild, 2519 Northwestern Ave. General admission tickets are $6.             Writing on the wall.  A new art exhibit opens Friday at the Racine Arts Council gallery, 316 Sixth St. "Decks, Tags & Air" features artists Dee Hutch, Shelly Johnson and Brent Oudeans who have created a large-scale interpretation of graffiti art, a mainstream and controversial art movement that exhibits a diverse spectrum of color. The opening reception with the artists is 6-9 p.m. The free exhibit runs through Jan. 26.

            If it's laughter you're after.  Karen Morgan, a trial attorney-turned standup comic, is on stage at the Racine Theatre Guild's Comedy Tonight series. She's been on Nickelodeon's "Funniest Mom in America" and appears regularly on TV, radio and comedy clubs throughout the country. Karen takes the stage at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Theatre Guild, 2519 Northwestern Ave. Tickets are $17 for adults; $15 for students and seniors.             There she is!  The 2013 Miss Racine Pageant features 10 local contestants. The theme is "Miss Racine Goes Country." It starts at 7 p.m. at the Starbuck Middle School auditorium, 1516 Ohio St. Tickets are $15 at the door.

 

            The Big Bundle up continuesReal Racine has received dozens of wonderful winter clothing donations for The Big Bundle Up campaign. You can bring your gently used or new coats, caps, mittens, scarves etc. to the Real Racine Visitor Center, 14015 Washington Ave (Highway 20, just west of I-94) until 5 p.m. Friday.  All items will be given to local charities.

 

            Get ready for The Big Chill.  In just a week, Downtown Racine will be transformed into the state's most unique outdoor art gallery The Big Chill Ice and Snow Festival runs Jan. 11-13. The Wisconsin State Snow Sculpting Championship takes place on Monument Square and ice sculptures will be created in front of businesses along Main and Sixth streets. It's all free.
