Spooky Trips and Other Fall Fun

Music, harvest fun and spooky trips are on the docket for this October weekend in Racine County.

October is in full swing with colorful leaves and cool, some may say even spooky, evenings. Come along for a few of our weekend selections:

A party Downtown. This Friday, Oct. 7, is First Friday in Downtown Racine. From 6 to 9 p.m., downtown art galleries and shops will feature exhibits and demonstrations by a variety of artists. Live music is on tap by Acoustic Horizon at Crosswalk Park on Main Street, Paul Kaye at Third and Wisconsin and Mathew Haeffel on the 400 block of Sixth Street. It's all free!

Chills in the countryside.  October is prime time for eerie things. A couple of spooky trips can be taken in Racine County. Apple Holler, 5006 S. Sylvania Ave., Yorkville,  has "spooky story hayrides" from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Visitors ride a tractor-drawn wagon through the orchard while a mysterious escort tells spooky stories. The price is $5 per person. The Bear Den, 6831 Big Bend Road (Highway 145), Waterford, is home to the "Haunted Woods" from 7 to 11 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. They promise "breathtaking surprises and spine tingling suspense." The price is $12 for adults and $10 for kids ages 11 and younger. The woods is not recommended for young children.
