'Skamper' with Skeletons and Other Halloween Fun

This Halloween weekend is crammed with activities in Racine County. Check out a few of our picks.

Everywhere you turn, there's a pumpkin, a ghost, a black cat and activities in Racine County. It must be Halloween weekend!

Here are a few of our weekend picks:

Start with a run or a walk.  Real Racine Skeleton Skamper - Southeastern Wisconsin's ONLY costumed race is Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Village of Mount Pleasant Civic Campus. Choose from a timed half-marathon at 8:30 a.m., a 5k run/walk at 9 a.m. or the Ruud Lighting Trick-or-Treat Walk at 10 a.m. Online registration has ended but you can still register at the race site on Saturday. After the races, stick around for DJ entertainment, a costume contest, pumpkin decorating, the Eastbay sports apparel portable showroom, displays form local organizations and more. Because construction activity prevents parking at the village campus, please park at Ruud Lighting, 9201 Washington Ave. Shuttles will run to and from the start/finish area every 10 minutes from 6:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Continue at the Zoo. The annual Boo at the Zoo runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Racine Zoological Gardens, 2131 N. Main St. This event is perfect for younger goblins, ages 3 through 10, and includes trick-or-treating, costume and scarecrow contests, face painting and more. Regular zoo admission prices apply. Visit: www.racinezoo.org

Family fun downtown.  The whole family is invited to the Fall Family Fun Fest from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Racine Art Museum, 441 Main St. Free activities include pumpkin decorating, spooky storytelling, pumpkin decorating, art projects and a costume contest. Visit: www.ramart.org.

Pumpkin time. Head to Union Grove Union High School gym for the Great Pumpkinfest from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday. The eighth annual event, sponsored by the Greater Union Grove Area Chamber of Commerce, includes costume parades and contests, a pumpkin dessert contest, a storyteller, a jack-o-lantern contest and more. It's all free and donations are welcome.

Crawl around.  After 9 p.m. Saturday, it's an adult Halloween weekend celebration at Racine's Annual Trolloween bar crawl. A $2 wristband buys you unlimited rides on shuttle buses running among 15 Racine bars. Food and drink specials are available all over town and a costume contest offers cash prizes.

Have fun this weekend.  To keep up with what's happening, visit www.realracine.com or "like" us at www.facebook.com/realracine
