Music, Music, Music - It's Free!

Racine County is a rockin' place this summer. Best of all, a lot of music is FREE. Real Racine has some great picks.

Racine County is one rockin’, musical place. Best of all, a lot of it is free. Come along for some of our picks.

Season Opener in Waterford.  Waterford River Rhythms kicks off another entertaining season starting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, June 7 at the Village Hall Park. This week’s performer is jazz keyboardist Dan Trudell. Free admission – bring your lawn chair or blanket. Food and beverages are available for purchase. River Rhythms features seven shows on Thursday evenings through August. Check out the performance calendar at: www.waterford-wi.org

More Music on Friday.  Downtown Racine’s Music on the Monument series continues Friday with the classic rock band Final Approach. The free concert runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Drop by and catch some music every Friday though August. The performance line-up is at www.racinedowntown.com

Bohemian Food and Fun.  The annual Bohemian Fest opens Friday at St. John Nepomuk Church, 700 English St. Festival hours are 5-11 p.m. Friday, noon-11 p.m. Saturday and 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. The church’s famous roast pork dinner ($10 or $10.50 for carryout) starts at 4:30 p.m. Saturday. You can also try homemade kolaches, a Czech pastry. Live music Friday and Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. There are also rummage, bake and craft sales. You can also participate in a cash raffle, a meat raffle and a silent auction. It’s all free!

Swinging Brass at Union Grove.  “Swinging Brass in Concert” featuring the Belle City Brassworks band is 2 p.m. Sunday at the Union Grove High School Performing Arts Center, 3433 S. Colony Ave. The featured guest is the South Rampart Street Players Dixieland Band. The performance is free but tickets are required. It’s suggested you pick up tickets in advance and arrive early. Tickets are available in Union Grove at Roger Palmen Chevrolet, Piggly Wiggly and Community State Bank.

Animals at RAM.  The animal kingdom is the focus at the Racine Art Museum (RAM), 441 Main St., and at RAM’s Wustum Museum of Fine Arts, 2519 Northwestern Ave. “Animal Nature” is the exhibition at RAM where you can see animal-related art in cut paper, jewelry and blown glass. At Wustum, the exhibition “Creature Comforts” with works by area families, art students and regional artists runs through August 25. Visit www.ramart.org
