Music for a Great Cause

If music is your thing, you'll find lots of it in Racine County this weekend. Real Racine has you covered.

Ready for another winter weekend?  If music's your thing, you'll find it in Racine County. Real Racine has you covered.

Lots of music for a great cause.  One of the year's largest and most varied music events, Thoughts for Food, is Friday and Saturday, March 1-2.  This remarkable fund-raiser that benefits the Racine County Food Bank features more than 50 bands. The All Ages Event starts at 5 p.m. Friday at the Eagles Club, 319 Hamilton St. Tickets are $5 plus two nonperishable food items to see seven bands. The Thoughts for Food main event starts at 7 p.m. Saturday. A $10 bill and two nonperishable food items buys admission to 15 venues all evening long. Free shuttles will be running between Downtown and north of the river. Visit www.thoughtsforfood.org for the complete entertainment schedule.

Curtain's up at RTG.  A new play, "Be My Baby", starts its three weekend run at the Racine Theatre Guild, 2519 Northwestern Ave., at 7:30 p.m. Friday. The two main characters—a Scotsman and an English woman—simply don't get along. But, they're forced together on a Trans-Atlantic trip and find themselves caring for a baby. Performances are also scheduled for Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon. Call 262-633-4218 or visit www.racinetheatre.org for tickets and show times.

Sugarin' Off is back.  A family favorite event, Sugarin' Off Pancake Sundays, is back this Sunday as well as March 10 and 17 at the River Bend Nature Center, 3600 N. Green Bay Road, Caledonia. Admission ($8 for adults; $4 for children ages 4 through 12) includes a full pancake breakfast served with real Wisconsin maple syrup. Volunteers, including a Leadership Racine team, will be serving from 9 a.m. until 12 noon. After breakfast, take a hike around River Bend to see how maple trees make sugar and how it's cooked down into maple syrup. Visit www.riverbendnaturecenterracine.org

Free at RAM.  It's time again for freebies at the Racine Art Museum, 441 Main St. Admission is free from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday. Use it to see the current series of exhibition including "Stark Contrasts: Black and White Ceramics from RAM's Collection." On Saturday, bring the family back for a free hands-on art project from 1-4 p.m. Visit www.ramart.org
