With $435,000 Asking Price, 'Trilogy' Home a Local Landmark

Designed by renowned architect John Randal McDonald, this Mount Pleasant home in wooded surrounding overlooks a ravine and the Root River.

From elegant and stately mansions to modern, environmentally friendly abodes, southeastern Wisconsin is chock-full of one-of-a-kind homes for sale. Each week, Patch highlights one "Wow House" that caught our attention.

This week, it's a home at 1505 Valley View Drive in Mount Pleasant known as "Trilogy" that was designed by architect John Randal McDonald, whose work is often compared to that of Frank Lloyd Wright. Also known as the John E. and Catherine Erskine House, the home has been featured on tours of homes designed by Wright and architects like him.

According the website Wright in Wisconsin, Trilogy "is designed on an equilateral triangular grid, with triangularity as a repeated design motif throughout the entire home."

The home features stone walls, Philippine mahagony paneling and trim, and a stone fireplace surrounded by a pool and garden. Located at the end of a cul-de-sac, the home overlooks a ravine and the Root River, providing privacy, tranquility and spectacular views for its occupants, Wright in Wisconsin says.

A triangular roof sunwell permits natural light into the very center of the house into a small pond, raised fireplace and stairway to the lower level. There is a separate guest quarters below the garage.

Built in 1955, the home is being offered by BuyHomes.com for $435,000. It has four bedrooms, four full bathrooms and four half-baths. To schedule a showing, contact Corey Scholtka at 414-940-5555.

If you're a real estate agent and would like to have one of your homes included in our free "Wow House" feature, send an email to milwaukee@patch.com.

Now, to me, that's a "Wow House". I've been in a number of McDonald's homes. I don't recall if we saw that one on one of the "Wright and Like" tours we are on, or not. I know he has others in the Racine area. Considering what one would pay for a Wright home of a similar nature, that's a bargain price. Of the contemporaries of Wright in that period of his career, McDonald seemed to come closest in terms of applying the concepts Wright formulated for his Usonian homes. We met McDonald at one of the homes in Racine during a Wright and Like tour down there in 98, I think it was. Got to visit with him again at one on Green Tree Road several years later. He was quite a character. Liked his cocktails and seemed to enjoy the attention of the ladies.

Rees; When the Sacred village Board cloaked the building of a new Village hall for over $17 million,Read More it was brought to there attention to build TWO new fire stations. One south, one north. Instead they built the Taj Mahal and a distance fire station. Maybe the two remaining Trustees could orate their decision for the residents.

Hmm "make a stronger Wisconsin than ever". Yup Scottie, 44th in the country is the beat!Read More Soon 50th? Inverted math? "The recall brought us closer together" You won spending 6-1 using a majority of out of state $, had 5 times longer to campaign and won because one side failed to confront the second battle of recalls as a whole vs Scotties recall. "For decades we will be able to look up public officials and hopefuls, teachers, neighbors, interviewees" so much for freedom of speech & the recall Scott Walker used to become Milwaukee's head of busted political officials.
