Village Boards Will Talk South Shore Monday

Trustees from both Mount Pleasant and Sturtevant will meet Monday for the first time since the South Shore Fire consolidation was signed in 2009.

Trustees from both Mount Pleasant and Sturtevant will meet Monday to talk about the South Shore Fire Department. This is the first time both boards will meet together since the consolidation agreement was signed in 2009.

The goal is to review the history that led to the creation of the department, talk about the current situation and discuss the need for a new ambulance as well as goals for the future of the department.

"There's been a lot of talk in our separate villages, but we haven't sat down together since the agreement was signed," said Sturtevant Village Administrator Mary Cole. "We're neighbors and partners in South Shore so we should be talking more."

Setting up the meeting was triggered by the purchase of a new ambulance approved for the last three years by both village boards but never ordered. Members of Mount Pleasant's Finance/Legal/License committee directed SSFD command staff to send out requests for proposal for a new ambulance and two remount bid options.

Bids were returned May 6, but trustees will not specifically discuss the packages returned, Cole confirmed.
