Trustees Talking Road Projects

Sturtevant trustees will talk upcoming roads projects during a committee meeting Tuesday after the board meeting.

Sturtevant trustees will talk about needed road projects over the next five years during a special meeting Tuesday of the Public Works and Capital Improvements Committee.

At last week's continual committee meeting, Public Works Director and Village Administrator Mary Cole distributed a detailed list of projects and their price tags for board members to consider.

Village President Steve Jansen said the list represents both large and small projects trustees will need to consider.

"There's a lot of money tied up for the next five years, like the Willow Road expansion, which will need bonding," he noted. "The rest is picking and choosing."

Two priorities facing the village are the reconstruction of 95th Street and a new DPW building.

Because the Racine Water Utility is replacing the water main next year on 95th Street between Durand Avenue and Hulda Drive, the village will repave the road to save money.

Also, the current DPW facility is old and falling apart.

"Part of the plan is where to build a new DPW building because the one we have now is just inefficient and requires too much attention," Jansen said.

The committee meeting will commence at the end of the regularly scheduled board meeting that starts at 6 p.m. at Village Hall, 2801 89th Street. Call (262) 886-7200.
