The Race for the 63rd Assembly District Is On

Burlington Democrat Kelley Albrecht officially announced today that she will challenge Rep. Robin Vos (R-Rochester) for his seat in the new 63rd Assembly District.

Her campaign Facebook page has been up for weeks, but the official announcement just came today: Kelley Albrecht of Burlington is running against Rep. Robin Vos (R-Rochester) in November in the .

Previously, the 63rd Assembly District roughly included the northern part of Racine County, from Lake Michigan and west past I-94. If elected, Albrecht will represent Sturtevant, Dover, Rochester, Burlington, and most of Mount Pleasant in the 63rd Assembly District.

The entire communities of Caledonia, North Bay, Wind Point, Norway, and Raymond plus pieces of the City of Racine are now in the 62nd, which essentially flipped places with the 63rd.

Patch will talk with Albrecht more tomorrow about her candidacy, but for now, here's the full press release from her campaign:

Kelley Albrecht, Burlington, officially announces her intention to run for
State Representative of the 63rd Assembly District, a seat currently held
by Robin Vos.

Albrecht has been a resident and community volunteer of Burlington for 22
years. She will bring to Madison her vision of working together with
citizens and community leaders, a passion for democracy, and strong moral
and ethical beliefs. She has the strength and knowledge that a leader of
the 63rd district needs to overcome the challenges of today in order to
provide a better tomorrow. Kelley will have an open door policy where
everyone is invited to come in and discuss the issues of our community.

“In 2011, Rep. Robin Vos helped the 63rd district and the state of
Wisconsin make history: Historical number of job losses, Historical number
of businesses shutting their doors, Historical cuts to education that now
leave classrooms overcrowded and understaffed, Historical attacks on
women’s health and equality and rolling back Wisconsin’s progressive way of
thinking by silencing the voices of the people, by preventing them from
being a part of the solution to the problems we all face today. It is time
to bring the citizens of the 63rd district back to the table to work
together and find solutions that will once again move our community and
state forward. It is time for the 63rd to reject career politician Robin
Vos who only represents special interests and elect Kelley Albrecht who
will take the voice of the people to Madison and help reclaim Wisconsin.

Over the course of the last year, communities, neighbors and families have
been subjected to Scott Walker’s “divide and conquer” strategy that was
aided by Rep. Robin Vos’s role on the powerful Joint Finance committee. As
your representative, I will not take part in secrecy agreements; I will not
sit idly by and watch Wisconsin’s constitution be used as a doormat for
special interests. I will be the voice of all citizens in the
63rddistrict, regardless of political ideology.

While growing up in a small Iowa town that experienced a similar economic
downturn like Wisconsin is today, Kelley learned from her parents that
doing more with less can be accomplished if everyone is a part of the
solution. They taught her that investing in the future is a necessity if
you want to be successful in life.

“We have come to a tipping point in Wisconsin when we have to understand
that in order for our children to be successful in life, we must invest in
healthcare and education. We must invest in our neighborhoods and
infrastructure so our communities can begin growing again both socially and
economically.”

“Unlike my opponent, I cannot and will not be bought and sold by special
interest groups. I will be the voice of the people for the people and
promise to make sure the citizens of the 63rd district are heard loud and
clear in Madison.”

By working together, we can make a difference and reclaim the dream of
economic mobility.
