Sturtevant Police Chief to Recommend OK for Conceal Carry at Village Hall

Lack of manpower to check everyone is just one reason.

Sturtevant Police Chief Sean Marschke will recomment to trustees at the Continual Committee meeting on Tues., Sept. 13, that permitted weapons not be banned from Village Hall.

"Most citizens who will undergo the background check and training are law-abiding and not really who we have to worry about," he said.

But part of the issue, too, would be how to check residents for weapons.

"We just don't have the manpower for that," Marschke stated.

Another situation police want to avoid is having someone have to lock their gun in their vehicle while at Village Hall.

"That is just asking for trouble," the chief added. "Cars can get broken into, the gun stolen and the perpetrator gone in a matter of seconds. Having a stolen weapon on the street is something we should avoid."

Citizens, permitted or not, are prohibited from bringing weapons into the police station or into the municipal courtroom.
