April 20 Declared Sturtevant Beautification Committee Day

Since its inception in 2003, the group has helped create community gardens at village hall and placed giant planters full of bright flowers on Durand Avenue.

In 2003, Sturtevant residents Linda Busha and Rose Woodruff got together with some of their Master Gardener friends and formed a committee to make their village look better.

Now, 10 years later, April 20, 2013 has been declared Sturtevant Beautification Committee Day. The date also coincides with the village's volunteer work day in South Park to mark the annual commemoration of Earth Day.

Busha is now a village trustee, but she remains the glue that holds the committee together with Woodruff and a good number of Master Gardeners who continue to volunteer hundreds of hours planning, planting, and nurturing gardens and planters throughout Sturtevant.

On Saturday, Busha and Woodruff will lead an army of volunteers to South Park to perk it up. If anyone is interested in joining them, wear sturdy shoes, clothes that can get dirty and bring a pair of gloves. The fun starts at 9 a.m.
