Signatures for Wanggaard Recall on Track; Republicans Say Long Way to Go

Representatives from both Racine County Democrats and Republicans weigh in on how signature collection is going for the recall effort against State Sen. Van Wanggaard.

Governor Scott Walker isn't the only state Republican under threat of recall. State Sen. Van Wanggaard (R-Racine) is also targeted, and how that effort is progressing depends on what side of the argument you find yourself.

Racine County Democrat Randy Brandt isn't willing to disclose numbers, but he said organizers are pleased thus far.

"We're on pace to collect the necessary signatures to force a recall against Sen. Wanggaard, and the local committee is pleased with how the recall effort is going so far," he said.

But Bill Folk, chair for the Republican Party of Racine County, said the hard part is yet to come.

"It’s still early, the first 60 to 70 percent pretty to easy to get – it’s the rest that’s hard," he stated.

On Nov. 28, that over 300,000 signatures have been collected in 13 days to force a recall election for Walker. Numbers were not available for every county so how many signatures have been collected in Racine County remain unknown, but groups have been at various locations throughout , and since efforts kicked off on Nov. 15.
