Residents who want to meet the Racine Unified superintendent finalist, Dr. Lolli Haws, are invited to a special event on Feb. 19.
Haws is currently with the District of Columbia Public Schools in Washington, D.C. as an instructional superintendent. Anyone interested in looking at Haws' resume can find it at the RUSD website.
According to a story in Education World, Haws said the most important quality of a strong school leader was:
The ability to hire and mentor exceptional teachers and the ability to find and allocate resources to maximize student achievement by meeting kids' needs.
School Board president Dennis Wiser said Haws' has focused much of her career on closing achievement gaps, according to a story in the Journal Times.
“She stood out head and shoulders above everyone else,” Wiser said. “She interviewed well, has the background we’re looking for and has interest in closing achievement gaps.”
The search firm of Ray and Associates will serve as emcee for the event. Residents will be able to meet Haws and ask questions. This meet-and-greet is open to the public.
